London Marathon

James has served in the submarine service for 18 years, joining up from his home city of Liverpool, where he still resides, at the age of 20 as an Able Rate.  In 2019, he gained his commission as an officer at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth serving on submarines HMS VANGUARD, HMS VIGILANT and currently HMS VICTORIOUS.

This will be James’s first London Marathon having successfully applied in the 2023 ballot. He is using this as an opportunity to kickstart his fitness journey whilst raising money for a cause which is close to his heart. He has personally benefitted from upgrades to mess decks and audio-visual equipment which have been supported by RNRMC funding as part of the charity’s aim to improve the quality of life for serving personnel to improve morale.

The London Marathon is a huge but amazing challenge, and the RNRMC is a fantastic charity which does so much to support the Naval Community.

It can be difficult to switch off when you’re away because you never leave the submarine but having the latest games to play or television to watch films on really does help to pass the time. When you’re deployed for several months, it’s reassuring to have those home touches which make life that bit more comfortable.
