Press Release issued by: Inter Service Championship Rugby
The Navy v RAF Match Committee has announced that the Charities of the Day for the 2025 matches will be the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) and Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).
These two charities, which provide crucial support to both current and former serving members of the RAF and Royal Navy and their families, have long-standing relationships with this occasion.
Together the RAF Benevolent Fund (registered charity no. 1081009) and RNRMC (registered charity no. 1117794) have supported more than 100,000 individuals, and brought scores of other organisations together to deliver a wide range of projects and initiatives.
Chair of the Match Committee, Air Cdre Al Roberts, says that working with charities such as the RAF Benevolent Fund and RNRMC helps to bring the whole military community together.
“The Inter Service Championship uses rugby and sport to celebrate the Armed Forces community, which extends from young recruits through to veterans, and military families,” he says. “Charities such as the RAF Benevolent Fund and the RNRMC play a massive role for current and former personnel and their families, and by enabling them to raise much-needed funds we can contribute to the well-being of thousands of our colleagues.”
“The RAF Benevolent Fund is delighted to be selected as one of the Charities of the Day for the Navy v RAF rugby match,” says Controller/Chief Executive, Air Vice-Marshal Chris Elliot. “We look forward to a weekend of rugby, filled with friendly rivalry, fierce commitment and passion from all teams.
“A huge thank you to everyone for your donations to the Fund—your support makes a real difference in helping us provide life-changing support to members of the RAF Family when they need it most. We couldn’t do it without you!”
"It is fantastic to have been selected again as one of the Charities of the Day for the highly anticipated Navy v RAF Inter Service Championship match,” says RNRMC Chief Executive, Andrew Jameson OBE.
“This prestigious event is not only a celebration of the incredible camaraderie, tradition, and spirit of friendly competition between our Armed Forces but also an amazing opportunity to raise awareness of what we do. The funds raised from this event will go a long way in providing essential and lasting support for our naval families, ensuring they have access to the guidance, resources, and services they need – for life.”
This year’s Navy v RAF matches will be played at Franklin’s Gardens, home of the reigning Premiership champions, Northampton Saints, on Saturday, 19 April.
