The Royal Navy (RN) in British Forces Gibraltar recently participated in a Navy Command Leadership and Management Team Building Day.
Over 75 RN personnel took part throughout the day with most of them gathering at The Tower at 0700 to start the walk up to the Top of the Rock. Commander British Forces Gibraltar, Commodore Steve Dainton, gave a speech and set the Navy personnel off.
They climbed the 426m elevation to the Top of the Rock armed with weighted backpacks and water bottles. Once they reached the top, they paused for breath, and looked on as Commander Jack Hawkins gave a speech.
The event was funded by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) to support all RN personnel in BF Gibraltar. It provided the RN with an opportunity to bring all personnel together post the COVID 19 pandemic, boost morale, deliver some mandated training in Mental Wellbeing and Diversity & Inclusion, coupled with an afternoon of teambuilding and fun on the water with boat rides and paddle boarding.
Later that afternoon, there was a Team Winners and Runners Up presentation hosted by Commander Hawkins. Prizes were awarded to RN personnel who took part in the RN Paddle boarding races.
The first prize was awarded to 1st Leading Seaman Lord Brown, 2nd prize to AB Megan Yarrington and the 3rd prize to Leading Seaman Emily Grindrod.
Senior Warrant Officer Mac McKenna said: “Everyone had a great time, and we are hoping this will be an annual event. We would like to thank the RNRMC for funding this Team Building Day and for their continued support to all Royal Navy and Royal Marine personnel.
