On Tuesday 23 July, the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) hosted an evening reception in the beautiful setting of the China Fleet Country Club, Saltash, to thank local supporters for their ongoing commitment to RNRMC’s mission to support sailors, marines and their families, for life.
The charity’s Chief Executive, Andrew Jameson, welcomed guests including RNRMC volunteers, fundraisers, local ambassadors and corporate partners to a celebration of their achievements and dedication over the previous twelve months. Wendy Burns, wife of Royal Navy Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Andrew Burns CB OBE, was delighted to present recipients with their recognition certificates.
Among them were friends Becky Ormrod and Liza Jarvis, who were commended for their 40km Jurassic Coastal Challenge Walk fundraising for RNRMC. Becky’s husband, former Royal Marine Mark, suffered from life-changing injuries after tiggering an improvised explosive device during a routine foot patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2007. Becky, who is committed to supporting Armed Forces families and Liza, who is the Female Veterans Transformation Project lead, took on the picturesque, but hilly route past Durdle Door to the finish line in Weymouth.
On fundraising for RNRMC Becky said:
'Having worked in the sector and with my connection to the Royal Marines via my husband, I have seen firsthand what it means to families to receive RNRMC's support. It made fundraising for the charity an obvious choice, witnessing the impact that support can have.'
Liza added:
'I wanted to fundraise for RNRMC in particular as I know how collaboratively the charity works. It's clear how much they reach out to address the needs of the naval community and that collaborative piece makes the funding go so much further.'
RNRMC’s Chief Executive, Andrew Jameson said:
‘The evening was an opportunity to recognise and pay tribute to the outstanding efforts of those who have gone above and beyond for the charity over the past 12 months. The support we receive from fundraisers, volunteers and our corporate partners is vital to the RNRMC’s mission to remain by the side of our serving personnel, whether they are Royal Navy, Royal Marines or Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and their families, past, present and future.’
As the home of His Majesty’s Naval Base Devonport, the South West region is a hub for the RNRMC, with many of its beneficiaries living and working in the area.
