World Book Day

  wbd

Whilst children all over the world head off to school dressed up as their favourite fictional character and celebrate the power of books, we wanted to highlight some of the organisations we fund that support children and families through literacy and storytelling:

Reading Force

Reading Force supports families (including Reserves, cadets, veterans, and ex-service families – through divorce or separation) to share books and chat about them, at home together or when separated by deployment, training, or distance, to help families stay close and have fun.

They give books, scrapbooks and journals to beneficiaries. Sharing these within the family boosts communication, continuity, bonding, literacy and resilience, and can help mitigate stress and support the emotional wellbeing of every family member. The charity also supports book clubs for juniors, seniors, and adults, with three free books and guidance.

To find out more, visit www.readingforce.org.uk.

Or head over to the Reading Force Facebook page to be part of their World Book Day book giveaway marathon where they are giving away books all day for children of all ages!

Aggies

Aggie’s has been providing pastoral and practical support to those serving in the RN, RM, RFA (both regular and reserves) and their families since 1876. One of Aggie’s practical projects is Storybook Waves, which enables you to record a bedtime story for your children to listen to whilst you are separated. Once you have recorded your story, your family will receive a free gift pack (which includes a Reading Force scrapbook and a picture book) and a copy of your story.

To find out more visit www.aggies.org.uk or call: 079 7764 1876.
