This morning, the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) proudly joined the families of HMS Duncan’s ship’s company at HMNB Portsmouth to welcome them home after an almost seven-month deployment. The emotional homecoming marked the end of a challenging and eventful mission, as the ship returns just in time for Christmas festivities.
HMS Duncan’s deployment began at short notice earlier this year, replacing HMS Diamond in the Red Sea. However, the destabilising situation in the Middle East, including tensions around Israel and Lebanon, necessitated a shift in operations, with the ship holding in the Mediterranean to provide stability and support as needed.
This is the second major deployment for HMS Duncan in two years since undergoing a significant refit in 2022. RNRMC was proud to contribute a grant towards improving the ship’s interior during the refit, enhancing living conditions and boosting morale for the ship's company. The charity’s support continues to ensure that our sailors are equipped with environments that promote their well-being during long and often demanding deployments.
Today’s homecoming was a particularly poignant moment for the families waiting on the jetty, including seven children under one year old meeting their loved ones after months apart. Among the ship's company, three crew members—LETWE Evans, LAC Broadhurst, and LETME Lobban—celebrated their birthdays today, adding to the joyous atmosphere.
The crew of HMS Duncan now has the opportunity to spend the festive season at home with their families, a well-earned reward after months of dedication and service.
