Peter Wilkinson spent 35 years in the Royal Navy, 20 of them as an operational submariner before completing his career with a range of personnel related appointments in both HM Naval Base, Portsmouth and MOD London. 

In retirement, he has been Chairman of Seafarers UK and of the Forces Pension Society.  He was National President of the Royal British Legion from 2012-2016 and recently chaired the appeal to build a new Memorial to Submariners at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire.  He remains a Vice President of the Royal Navy Football Association.
