2024 is set to be another busy year in Royal Navy sports, starting with the RN Snowsports Festival taking place in Les Deux Alpes from the 13-27th of January. This 2-week-long festival is the Royal Navy Winter Sports Association’s (RNWA) annual sporting event for downhill skiing and snowboarding. In the lead for having the highest rates of participation in the RN sporting scene, the festival encourages all levels of ability to get involved.
In its commitment to maintaining the vitality of sports across the Royal Navy, the RNRMC has provided £30,000 in funding to support the RN Snowsports Festival. This goes towards running the events that will take place and provide free lessons and racing for all Serving and Reserves, encouraging grass roots participation to try something new. The festival is open to all Royal Navy personnel, maritime reserves and veterans, their friends and family, and caters to all levels of experience. It includes training sessions and races for complete beginners and, for the expert level competitors, the chance to be selected for Service representation at the Inter-Service Snowsports Championships! The winter athletes have the chance to compete and win across eight winter disciplines: Alpine Ski, Snowboard, Telemark, Nordic, Bobsleigh, Bob-Skeleton and Luge.
The RNRMC plans to closely follow the unfolding excitement of the RN Snowsports Festival, capturing the camaraderie and unforgettable performances of the competitors as they unfold.
