Extra Funding For Relationship Counselling To Meet Rising Demand

Grants

We know that there are unique challenges associated with navy life which can place additional strain on couple and family relationships, and impact directly on children in naval families. In 2022 the long-standing partnership between the RNRMC and Relate, a national relationship charity, continued, with demand for the service rising for the second year in a row, this time increasing by 20% from the previous year. In response to this extra demand, we were able to supply additional grant funding to Relate, ensuring that help was there for those who need it.

The funding enabled 827 people from the Royal Navy community to be supported, with over 2219 sessions of counselling delivered nationwide, mostly by webcam or telephone.

Carol Florin-White, Relate National Partnerships Manager said “Relate are proud to be able to provide vital support to so many naval personnel through a grant from the RNRMC.  We’re seeing a consistent rise in the number of people accessing the service and we’re also finding cases are more complex.  More people are coming to us with issues that are affecting their mental health.  We’re looking forward to the continued partnership with RNRMC over the coming year”
