Honorary Captain The Lord Hintze, Kt., AM, RNR is the founder, CEO and senior investment officer of CQS, one of Europe's leading credit-focused, multi-strategy asset management firms. He is also a portfolio manager. Before establishing CQS in 1999, Michael held senior roles at Credit Suisse First Boston and Goldman Sachs.
He began his career in finance in 1982 with Salomon Brothers, New York, after working as an electrical design engineer for Civil and Civic Pty Ltd. in Australia and serving in the Australian military. He established the Hintze Family Charitable Foundation in 2005; since then, nearly 200 charities have received funding. He serves on the Vatican Bank Board and the Audit Committee of the Duchy of Cornwall.
Hintze holds bachelor's degrees in physics, pure mathematics, and electrical engineering from the University of Sydney. He holds an MSc in Acoustics from the University of New South Wales, an MBA from Harvard Business School and received a DBA (honoris) from the University of New South Wales. Sir Michael was made a life peer in October 2022.
