A group of veterans, supported through a Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) grant to Age UK Portsmouth, were invited aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth last week for a tour of the aircraft carrier.

The group was given a very warm welcome and shortly after they were taken on a tour around the ship and across the flight deck. The veterans were also treated to tea and cakes on the bridge, served by the HMS Queen Elizabeth's ships company.

In 2018, the RNRMC awarded a grant of £39,316 to the organisation who provide free support for lonely or isolated military persons, as well as free information and advice for veterans and active service personnel in Portsmouth.

Veterans, who regularly receive support from Age UK Portsmouth, were offered the chance to visit Britain's largest warship as part of the charity's 'Veterans Project'.

Speaking about their visit, Lianne Jones from Age UK Portsmouth said:

"The veterans had a fabulous morning on board HMS Queen Elizabeth and we can’t thank the ship and personnel enough."
