One of HMS Collingwood’s standout assets, Sea Nymph III provides qualified personnel and civilian staff a unique chance to charter her. The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and RN&RM Sports Lottery have collectively contributed invaluable funds for the upkeep of the sublime and in-demand vessel.
Sea Nymph III enables a maximum of 8 people at a time to go sailing in the Solent either as first-time sailors or to progress their skills prior to taking formal sailing qualifications. It provides many with their first taste of the maritime environment in a safe, fun and enjoyable setting. From March through to November, Sea Nymph III takes approximately 20 personnel weekly afloat.
Sea Nymph III, a Starlight 35 Yacht was purchased through the CAF of HMS DRYAD in 1997 and was additionally aided by funds from the Sailors Fund Fleet Amenities Fund, The Nuffield Trust, The Aldershot Church of England Trust, and The Royal Naval Sailing Association.
This funding by RNRMC supports general repairs, running costs and the maintenance and modernisation plan required to keep Sea Nymph III running for a further five years.
There are many benefits to sailing – with sailing often involving teamwork and camaraderie, fostering social bonds. Building relationships and sharing experiences with others that can combat loneliness and enhance feelings of belonging.
Sea Nymph III serves as a powerful tool for enhancing mental well-being, offering a blend of physical activity, social interaction, and connection with nature. The success of the project will enable inclusive grassroots sailing to continue in Collingwood enabling both trainees and ships company to sail.
