The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) has proudly supported HMS Collingwood by providing funding for the creation of a new Victim/Witness Interview Suite, which was officially opened today. The suite, designed to provide a comfortable and relaxed environment for victims and witnesses of crime, aims to help individuals feel at ease when speaking with the service police. This project will be particularly beneficial for the numerous trainees at HMS Collingwood, many of whom may already feel anxious about such interviews.
The driving force behind this important initiative was Leading Hand (LH) Simon Hayes, a member of the service police at HMS Collingwood. His dedication to the project extended beyond his professional duties, as he even spent his free time painting and preparing the room to ensure it was ready for use. His hands-on approach exemplifies the commitment to welfare and care that the Royal Navy family shares.
Captain Tim Davey, Commanding Officer of HMS Collingwood, officially opened the suite in a ceremony attended by representatives of RNRMC, including Lucy Fryer. The support provided by RNRMC for this project highlights the charity’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of serving personnel.
With the suite now fully operational, it will play a vital role in improving the experience of those who find themselves in difficult situations, ensuring they can speak in a safe and calming space.
