Since 2021, RNRMC has awarded nearly £78,000 to Fighting with Pride to enable the charity to support the wellbeing of LGBT+ Veterans, service personnel and their families, particularly those most impacted by the ban on LGBT+ personnel serving in the Armed Forces prior to January 2000.

In the four years since its inception, the charity has created a national network of LGBT+ Veterans Community Workers, who support LGBT+ veterans, serving personnel and families and those dismissed from our Armed Forces because of a perception of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

With this new funding FWP aims to build upon the resources needed to enable additional support to Charities and organisations in the military sector who look after veterans, the Armed Forces/MOD and others to deliver the 49 recommendations outlined in an independent review into the historical treatment of people who were forced to leave the military due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Through our funding, we hope to ensure that Royal Navy and Royal Marines Veterans, serving personnel and their families are fully supported in their personal recovery from the impact of the 'gay ban'.
