On 6 June 1944, more than 156,000 troops and over 6,000 ships and landing vessels took part in D-Day across the beaches in Normandy. It was the largest naval, air and land operation in the history of warfare and marked a pivotal moment in World War 2.
Our D-Day 80 Memorial is an opportunity for you to create a special tribute to a family member for the role they played in D-Day - or the wider war effort. Adding a photo and sharing a tribute is a wonderful way to keep their memory alive and mark this historic anniversary. Together we can also ensure that the sacrifice of those who didn’t make it home is never forgotten.

The courage of our men who went in front towards the beaches, underwater, to clear the minefields at the water's edge, has always left me breathless with admiration. We spent most of our time, with others, bombarding the so-called Omaha beach and were hit by a shore battery. All I can recall of the actual D-Day landing moment (as we lay off the French coast) was a loud cheer that went up from our ship's company when they heard our soldiers were advancing onshore.
