John Whiteman is a serving Royal Marine based at 40 Commando. He joined as a reservist at the age of 17 becoming a regular at 25. He is married to Caroline and has three children. 

On the 11th of November 2022 everything changed for John and his family. He suffered two fits which at the time were undiagnosed and he went back to work. The following February John suffered a further fit which led to a diagnosis of stress-based epilepsy and post-traumatic stress disorder. 

John hasn’t been unable to work since February 2023 he said:

 “I was a lot more aggressive, the children didn't know what sort of, dad would come home, whether it would be the happy, playful dad or the dad who's just going to shout at them for doing silly stuff.”
