Arty, a proud member of the Royal Navy for 32 years, is a devoted husband and proud father to his son, Benjamin. He shares with us his son’s journey to an Autism diagnosis and the support he has been able to access since.
Prior to Benjamin going to nursery, we noticed he may have traits of Autism such as rocking in his chair and putting his little animals in a straight line. When he got to nursery, they indicated to us that his development was 6 months to a year behind what they were expecting for his age. This prompted us to seek a referral through our local council and to get an assessment for him.
Unfortunately, this all happened around the time of the pandemic, in which both Benjamin and my wife, who was extremely vulnerable, had to isolate. After some setbacks, we were eventually able to get a face-to-face assessment, where the paediatric consultant diagnosed Benjamin with Autism there and then.
The paediatric consultant diagnosed Benjamin with Autism there and then.
My wife and I feel extremely lucky for this, despite the many setbacks we faced along the way. Through our persistence, we were able to access the support Benjamin needed.
